Creating Custom Documents

Overview

If you're finding yourself needing to generate non-proposal content such as quality control plans, quality management plans, and capability statements, Custom Documents can help.

Custom Documents brings the power of GovDash to content that isn't structured like a traditional proposal solicitation. It utilizes your full Data Library (along with documents that you provide) to quickly generate fully exportable Word documents, without needing to use ChatGPT.

Accessing Custom Documents

There are multiple ways to access Custom Documents in GovDash:

Click the Quick Create button at the top of the GovDash navigation bar, and then Custom Document from the list that appears.

Click Custom Docs from the navigation bar in GovDash.

On any page within GovDash, click the Dash icon.

You can begin asking Dash to create your document using the steps below.

Creating and Editing Custom Documents

To create a new document, click in the top right hand corner.

Using the chat box at the bottom left corner of the page, you can ask GovDash to create your document. By default, GovDash will auto-select the best context to use for your request, but there are multiple controls at your disposal to control the context GovDash has with your request.

Using the + button located in the chat box, you can attach documents from your computer, or choose to include your Data Library documents. This will limit the scope of GovDash’s context to just your uploaded/selected documents. The source documents that were used to build the response will also show below the response.

Once GovDash has processed your request and provided you with a reply, you can send follow up messages to iterate on the document. You can choose to have GovDash reattempt your request if you did not like the reply by using the Try Again button.

At any point you can insert the reply that GovDash has given you into the custom documents editor, called the canvas editor, by clicking the icon under the response.

Once inside the canvas editor, you can make any change you’d like to your document using the editor controls for styling, bulleted or numbered lists, and tables.

You can continue to use the chat box to make changes to your document, as the editor has full context of the current page. You can treat it like a conversation and continue to use the insert button to add (or replace) content as needed.

By utilizing the Deep Research button, Dash will spend more time analyzing your Data Library, producing more detailed documents and responses. This process takes longer than traditional responses, and a progress bar will show the current status of your request.

You can freely exit the chat window or navigate elsewhere in GovDash and Dash will continue to work in the background on your request. Once finished, you will receive a notification within the application as well as an email once it’s ready. You can view the completed document/request in Custom Docs on the left-hand side of GovDash.

Please Note

When utilizing Deep Research, your existing document will be overridden with the deep research request, so please take care when using this feature!

Downloading Custom Documents

After you're satisfied with your custom document within GovDash, you can export the full document in Microsoft Word format by clicking the Export Word button above the canvas editor.

Word Assistant Tips

Once your document has finished downloading, you can then use the GovDash Word Assistant to make any finishing touches you'd like to the document. Learn more about the Word Assistant in our guide here.

Custom Documents History

GovDash keeps a record of your previous Custom Documents requests, which allows you to quickly pull up previous chats that you've had. To access this history, click chat history icon in the top left of the chat window.

History is kept indefinitely, so you will always have your previous requests at a moment's notice!

Clicking on the chat within the list will populate the chat window with all follow up questions/refinements, and your document, which is being saved while you work on it.

At any point, you can also create a new custom document request by clicking the + Chat button in the top right.
